Jaime's Bubble Talent

In case you didn't see if on Facebook yesterday, I thought I'd post this on here, too. Yesterday, I caught Jaime blowing bubbles, not only was he blowing bubbles with the bubble wand, he was putting the bubble soap on his lips and forming bubbles that way, too. Kind of weird, yes, but a pretty huge thing considering all of the sensory, developmental and feeding issues he's overcome the last 4 years! I thought this was simply too cute NOT to share! Such talent the boy has! :)

Just to put things in perspective, yesterday marks the first time I held Jaime, 4 yrs ago. He was 1 week old...and then coded for the first time, during the night, just hours after the photo was taken. We've come a long way from our NICU days to discovering bubble talent and I couldn't be more proud of him!
Just wanted to share this with you...time for Jaime to go to sensory integration therapy where on Monday, I learned to "brush" him...wonder what we'll learn today! (Baby steps to desensitizing him!)

Until next time....

Happy 4th Birthday, Jaime!

WOW, WOW, WOOOOOWWWW (as Jaime says)......we made it to FOUR! Never dreamed this day would happen! I never imagined that I'd have such a silly, fun, loving, bright little guy who has endured so much in his four short years of life. I never thought I'd make it this far! What a journey it has been! The journey is definitely made easier by having the awesome support of all of you! I posted this on my Facebook page this morning...it pretty much sums up the day! :)

Now on to some birthday logistics...Jaime has been sick since the weekend. He's progressively gotten worse over the last few days (he has to get worse before he gets better). He's got a pretty bad cough, which causes a slue of other issues (coughing, gagging, throwing up, difficulty breathing, sore throat, exhaustion...). Yesterday the pulmonologist put him on breathing treatments every 3 hours and oral steroids along with his daily inhaled ones. Last night, he had a really bad coughing fit that nearly caused him a trip to the ER. I called the pulm, but he never called me back. Eventually, we were able to get him settled down, but it took a few hours. Jaime slept until 5 something in the morning before waking up and coughing. He asked to go to the ER this morning, but we did better than that...we had a "well-check" already scheduled with his pediatrician. She checked him out, other than his lungs being junky, he's doing GREAT! (We're continuing with his breathing treatments every three hours and oral steroids for the next few days!)
Here's what you've all been waiting for....Jaime's Stats! Drum roll please...............
Weight: 35lbs (45%).....Height 40 1/2 inches tall (60%). He has gained 3lbs this year and grew over 2 1/2 inches. This is pretty awesome! Tall and skinny, that's my boy!
As for other medical stuff...he is still not potty trained (he is poop trained, just not pee trained), which is of some concern. He is scheduled to see the "Healthy Bladder" Clinic in Cincinnati when we go down there for our annual appointments this summer. We'll see what their thoughts are, but ours are that his fluid intake overall is pretty low and that he doesn't have that "full bladder" sensation. Also, he still is showing signs of sensory issues, so his pediatrician has ordered him to have additional sensory integration therapy by an occupational therapist in the home (aside from just at school). I'm not entirely sure who that will be with, as we're not connected with any home therapists at this time. Hopefully, we'll get things restarted with someone soon. He still has feeding delays, she wants him to eat more and drink less Pediasure, but the Pediasure 1.5 k/cal is WHY he's grown and put some weight on. He's still on 20 meds, including all of his PRN meds, he stills wears glasses and will continue wearing them until further notice, and he still has some pending procedures/surgeries, but overall, things are status quo!!!! So, aside from crummy lungs and his "normal" issues, he had a pretty great check-up today!
We had a little family party for Jaime on Sunday and will be having some chicken tacos and brownies for dinner tonight for mini birthday celebration, I'll post the link to pics later if you're interested in viewing them.
Thank you for showing us your love and support the last four years, it is very much appreciated!
HAPPY 4th BIRTHDAY, JAIME!
